Watermelon Summer
What you will need for this tutorial:- Paint Shop Pro - (PSP) any version, mine was done in X2
Tube and Close Up of choice - I am using the awesome work of Ismael Rac . This particular tube was purchased when Ismael was with AMI, but you can now purchase his tubes and obtain a license at his own store. Here. Becky Mask 23 or Mask of choice.
Let's get started :-
Open a new image 600 x 600 pixels at 72dpi, flood fill with white. Copy and paste your tube. Now with your rectangle preset shape, background nil, foreground a dark shade from your tube, line width about 12, draw a rectangle slightly smaller in height than your tube. Effects, Distortion Effects, Wave:-
Now with your magic wand, click inside this frame, expand selection by 1. New Raster Layer below your frame. Make a gradient from two colours in your tube, linear, angle 45, repeats 0, and flood fill the selection. Effects, Texture Effects, Blinds :-
Selections None. Duplicate this layer. On the original layer, Effects, Reflection Effects , Pattern :-
Apply your mask to this layer. If using Becky Mask 23, duplicate the mask layer, mirror and flip. Back on the top fill layer, go to Effects, Illumination effects, Sunburst:-
Close off your tube layer for the time being.
Now take your pen tool, line width 8, foreground colour a lighter shade than your frame, draw a line from the bottom left, to the top right, see my screen shot for placement :-
Repeat this once more slightly higher, so that the top right goes into the corner of the frame. Convert to raster layer and drop below the frame. Add ad Inner Bevel to both the frame and the lines.
Drop shadow both :-
Merge the frame down onto the lines. New Raster Layer , drop below the frame. With your magic wand, click between the lines, expand the selection by 2 and flood will with a contrasting colour from your tube, I chose the pink of the water melon in my tube. Add the blinds effect as before, but tick the horizontal box. You should now have something like this:-
Copy and paste your close up tube, position in the bottom right corner , on the frame layer, click into that portion of the frame, expand the selection by2, invert, then on the tube layer hit delete to remove the excess tube. Change the blend mode of the tube layer to Luminance L . Minimise this image for now as we are next going to make our slices of watermelon. Open a new image 300 x 300 pixels and flood fill with white. With your preset shape set at ellipse, foreground nil, background the green you used for your frame, draw out an ellipse which is almost a circle, align centre then convert to a raster layer. Selections, select all, float, defloat, contact selection by 8, flood fill with #FEFFE , contract by a further 5 and flood fill with #FF4E4E, keep selected. Effects, Texture Effects :-
Repeat this a further twice to give your image the look of watermelon flesh . Selections None. Change your background colour to black, foreground nil, now draw a small oval seed on your image. Duplicate this as many times as you wish and arrange around the image.
Now with your freehand tool, draw a line through the centre of watermelon, and around one half:-
Right click into image and Cut , Selections None, Paste as a New Layer. Arrange the two halves on your canvas:-
Add an Inner Bevel, same settings as you used on the frame. Save this as a psp image so you can use it whenever you want. Restore your minimised image, open up the main tube layer, and making sure you are working at the top of the layers, copy and paste one of your watermelon slices at the bottom of the image. Duplicate and cover the bottom of the image with more slices. Resize and change the angle to suit your preference. Add a drop shadow to each slice, and to the main tube :- Now let's have some fun with the text (your name). using a nice solid font, I used Impact which came with my Windows, foreground black, stroke width 1, background colour a light colour from your tube, size 48 pixels, type out your name as a vector layer. Do not convert. In your layer palette, click on the + sign to open the vector layer:-
Now right click on the bottom of the two visible text layers and choose :-
Click on the plus sign which has now appeared, and your letters will all be on separate layers:-
You can now right click into each letter and choose properties:=
You can change your fill colour, or make it a gradient or a pattern. I chose different gradients on mine. When you have finished each letter, right click into the top text layer and convert to a raster layer. Angle your text so that it fits between the lines on the frame. Add a sharp drop shadow. Resize your tag to suit your taste. I resized mine by 80%. Now add your artist copyright, license number where required, and taggers mark if used. Delete your white background layer , merge visible and save as a png.
