Victorian Curves, Spring Violets

Rachael Tallamy Spring Violets

What you will need for this tutorial.

Paint Shop Pro (I used version X2, but this should be possible in all versions)

Tube of choice. I used the gorgeous art of Rachael Tallamy. Rachael licenses her own art. Licenses and tubes can be obtained from her web site.

Mask of choice, I used Becky Mask 22.

Scrap kit of choice. I used a kit called Violet Hill by Bel Vidotti Scraps. You can download it free off her blog.

Mura Seamless Filter - Shift at Arch - you can download this here it is in Set B

Font of Choice - I used Harrington

Let's get started

Don't forget to save often to avoid losing all your work if PSP or your PC crashes whilst working.

Open a new image 600x600 pixels at 72dpi resolution and flood fill with white.

Copy and paste your frame of choice from the scrap kit and resize so it fills about 2/3 of the canvas. Using your magic wand, click inside the frame, making sure you select all the bits if you choose the same frame as me. Expand this selection by about 5.

Expand Selection

Add a new layer above your background layer and then copy one of the papers from the kit and paste into the selection :-

Now copy and paste your tube, and resize to your frame. use the Eraser to delete any of the tube which overhangs the frame. Add a drop shadow to the tube and frame . I used these settings:-

Tube Drop Shadow

Vertical -3, Horizontal 3, opacity 60, Blur 6, Colour Black.

Now hide your background layer , and merge the frame, paper and tube. Resize your merged layer by 80% bicubic twice then sharpen.

Duplicate your layer, then find Mura Meister Shift at Arch and apply with the following settings:-

Shift at Arch

Rotate this layer 20 degree left and move up slightly, then duplicate it and mirror . Hide the background layer and merge your layers visible. You should now have something like this:-

Central Image

Now copy and paste your paper layer again above the background layer and open your mask in psp Then apply from Image:-

OK.... now we are going to add some text. Find your symmetric shape tool:-

Symmetric Shape Tool

and set this to polygon, create as vector with 5 sides:-

Polygon 5 Sides

Now draw a polygon, with line width about 2 ,colour black and no background/fill, flip the shape so that the point is at the bottom of your image. Do not convert at this stage.
Set your text tool with a colour to suit your image and hover the tool over the bottom centre of the polygon till you get the curved A. Now type out your text, I added a couple of spaces into the word "thoughts" so that it fitted round the point nicely.

Text in Polygon

When you are happy with your text, go to your layers palette, click on the vector to open it, then x out the polygon:-

Hide Polygon

Then convert your vector to a Raster Layer. Add the same drop shadow to your text as you used for your tube and frame. Position the image and text so that the text fits nicely at the bottom. Your image should now be looking something like this :-

Now add some of the embellishments from the kit. I used one of the doodles between the mask layer and the frame, a few flowers, a bow and one of the tags. Drop shadow each of these using the same drop shadow as previous.

Close off the background layer and merge all your other layers visible. Crop off any excess background and resize to suit your taste.

Add your name to the tag. I added mine to one of the tags from the kit, using the same font as the previous text. Drop shadow as before.

Now add your copyright information and license number as required.

You can now either merge all your layers and save as a jpeg, or delete the white background layer, merge visible and save as a png.
