Tutorial 17 Text on a Curve
Supplies needed:- PSP - I am using PSPXI but this will work in most versions. PSP Tube - The one I used is by Joel Adams, www.lilz.net, and is licensed through CILM. Please do not use it without first buying a license and the tube from CILM. Wheel accent made by me from a preset shape and Becky Mask 38 supplied Here Open your tube and font and minimise them until needed. Remember to save your work often so that if your program or pc crashes you do not have to start from the beginning again. Open a new image about 500 x 500 with resolution set to 72dpi.
Copy and paste your tube and accent onto the canvas and position as liked:-
Rename layers tube and accent. Make your white background layer active, and add a new raster layer:-
Flood fill this layer with a pale colour from your tube, I used #FFE24F . Now find your mask and apply with the following settings:-
Source Luminance, Fit to Canvas and Hide All mask checked .Click into the mask layer and Merge Group:-
Rename this layer Mask. Move the mask layer slightly so that is fills most of the area between the spokes of the wheel. Now add the following drop shadow to the tube and wheel accent:-
Vertical -2, Horizontal 2, Opacity 60, Blur 4. We are now going to add some text to the tag which is going to lie around the outside edge of the wheel. With your Foreground colour set to black, background null, locate your preset shape , ellipse:-
Using the following settings, draw a circle around your wheel slightly bigger than the wheel itself:-
Now grab your text tool, and using a font of choice set at about 36 size, and a dark colour from your tube, hover the tool over the top of the circle until you see a curved line under the A - type your text and apply:-
Now go to your layers palette and click on the + sign on your vector layer:-
Then x out the New Ellipse Layer to hide your black circle:-
Right click back on the Vector Layer and Convert to Raster:-
Now add the same drop shadow to the text as you applied to the tube and wheel. Now add your name using the same font, but increasing the size to suit your tag. Using the nodes, stretch your text and rotate it to your liking:-
Convert to a raster layer, and add the same drop shadow. You might have an excess of white on your tag, so locate your crop tool:-
Draw a box around your image making sure you do not cut off any of the mask:-
Click on apply. Now add your copyright layer, license number if needed and your own taggers mark. Save your image in layers as a psp image so that you can go back it at a later date. Then save or export as a jpeg.
