Tutorial 16 Text 2
In this tutorial you will make a simple name card using a method called Converting Text to Character Shapes. Supplies needed:- PSP - I am using PSPXI but this will work in most versions. PSP Tube - The one I used is by Rainbow Coffi and can be downloaded from PSP Playground. Fat Font of choice. I used Impact which came with my Windows XP.. Open your tube and font and minimise them until needed. Remember to save your work often so that if your program or pc crashes you do not have to start from the beginning again. Open a new image about 500 x 250 with resolution set to 72dpi.
Using a fat font set at about 150 size, type out your name, making sure that you are creating the text as a vector layer:-
I used a red colour from the rose tube as my background colour, foreground null. Use the nodes to stretch the name so that it is almost the width of the canvas. Then Align- Centre in Canvas:-
Do not de-select. On the layers palette click on the plus sign:-
Now right click in the layer that opens and then click Convert Text to Curves - Character Shapes:-
Right click into the layer again, and click on Ungroup:-
You will now see that the letters of your name now appear as individual layers in your layer palette:-
You can now make individual letters active and position them to your liking. I moved both the E's in my name, moving one up slightly, and one down:_
Once you are happy with the position of your letters, click into the top layer and convert to a raster layer.
Now lets add some effects to our letters. Go to Effects, Texture Effects, Tiles:-
Apply this effect using the following settings:-
Tile Shape, Triangle, Angularity 30, Size 10, Border Size 2, Smoothness 13, Depth 5, Ambience 100, Shininess 57, Colour - same as your text colour, Angle 242, Intensity 50, Elevation 30. Now go to Effects,3D Effects ,Inner Bevel:-
Apply with the following settings:-
Bevel 12, Width 18, Smoothness 2, Depth 2, Ambience 0, Shininess 2, Colour White, Angle 315, Intensity 50, Elevation. Finish the text off with a drop shadow at the following settings:-
Vertical -2, Horizontal 2, Opacity 80, Blur 2. Now copy and paste your flower tube and copyright layers. Position and resize if necessary.
Apply the same drop shadow to your tube as you did to the text. Now merge all your layers:-
To finish off your tag, add a border , 2 Pixels wide in the same colour as your text:-
Your tag is now ready to save or export as a jpeg.
