Tutorial 15

Reflection Effects

Whispers In the Wind

A simple tutorial made entirely from effects within Paint Shop Pro.

Supplies needed:-

PSP - I am using PSPXI but this will work in most versions.

PSP Tube - The one I used is by Jennifer Janesko,www.janesko.com, and is licensed through CILM. You may not use her images without the appropriate license. Licenses and tubes can be obtained at CILM .

Word Art - I made mine and it is available Here.

Font of choice. I used Old English which came with my Windows XP..

Open your word art, tube and font and minimise them until needed. Remember to save your work often so that if your program or pc crashes you do not have to start from the beginning again. The tutorial appears to be quite long, but that is mainly because I have included a lot of screen shots to help you.

Open a new image 500 x 500 pixels, 72 dpi Resolution:-

New Image

Flood fill this layer with white. Now copy and paste your tube and leave it centrally in the canvas .Rename the layer tube, and duplicate it twice:-

X out the top two layers, and make the bottom tube layer active. Now go to Adjust and locate your Gaussian Blur:-

Apply with the setting at 20:-

Staying on this layer, locate your texture Effect called Weave:-

Weave

Apply this effect with the following settings:-

Weave Settings

Gap Size 2, Width 5, Opacity 10, Weave and Gap Colours White, Fill Gaps ticked.

Now x out the tube layer, and open the copy tube. On this layer we are going to use the Reflections Effect kaleidoscope:-

Kaleidoscope

I used the following settings:-

Kaleidoscope Settings

Horizontal Offset -52, Vertical Offset 17, Rotation Angle 90, Scale Factor 51, NUmber of petals 4, Number of Orbits 0, Radial Suction 67, Edge Mode - Reflect. Depending on your tube you might need to play about with these settings to get a similar result.

Change the blend mode of this layer to Luminance Legacy:-

Luminance Legacy

Open the top tube layer and add a drop shadow with the following settings:-

Your image should now look something like this:-

After Effects

Now copy and paste the word art and position where you like it on the tag.

Now find the font you wish to use, and type your name out using a medium/dark colour from your tube. I used the following settings:-

Font Settings

Stretch your text to your liking and position as required. When happy convert to a raster layer and add the following drop shadow:-

. Now go back to the Reflections effect, and this time click on Feedback :-

Apply this effect with the following settings:

-feedback settings

Opacity 35, Intensity 70, Horizontal Offset 7, Vertical Offset 100.

The edges of your tag possibly look slightly hard, so I added a frame to mine to soften it.

Now add your copyright, license and taggers mark as appropriate.

Your tag is now almost finished unless you wish to animate it. If you do wish to animate, go from here to the tutorial Whisper On The Wind.

Otherwise, save your image in layers as a psp file then merge all your layers and either save or export as a jpeg.
