Tube of choice . I am using the work of Steve Baier which is licensed through Up Your Art. To use this tube you need to purchase it from them.

Filters - VM Instant Art Origami, and Three Cuts

Mask of choice.

Font of choice, I used Pea Hanzel and Gretel.

Let's get started

Open a new image 600 x 250 pixels at 72 dpi. Flood fill with white.

With a foreground colour to match your tube, background nil, rectangle preset shape tool , line width about 12, draw out a rectangle about 200 pixels high 450 wide. Align centre in canvas .Convert to Raster.

Change the line style to diamond, line width the same as your rectangle, draw out another rectangle the same size as your first one, convert to raster, align center then merge down onto your first rectangle.

Position this frame slightly to the right of your canvas.

Go to Plug Ins - VM Instant Art-Origami and apply with the following settings:-

Origami

Depending on your frame colour and the effect you want to create, you may need to adjust the red, green and blue settings.

With your magic wand, click inside the frame, expand your selection by 3 and flood fill with any colour.

Go to VM Instant Art- Three Cuts and apply as follows:-

Three Cuts

Again , you might need to change the colour setting to get the colour you want.

Now go to Effects - Texture Effects - Antique Mosaic as follows:-

Now go to your preset shape tool, preset star with 5 points, solid line, width 15, colour as before , draw out a star. Rotate slightly and position as in my sample. Drop this star under the Three Cuts Frame fill. Duplicate and bring the duplicate to the top.

Apply the origami filter again, changing the colours so you get a different effect.

Use your eraser tool to remove parts of the star on the top layer, so that it looks as if it is hanging off the rectangle frame. Apply an Inner bevel:-

Drop shadow the bottom star, and the rectangle frame.

Click inside the frame with your magic wand, expand selection by 3. Invert the selection.

Copy and paste your tube, and position to the left of the rectangle frame. Hit delete to get rid of parts of the tube outside the frame. Selections none. carefully erase the bits of the tube that are between the rectangle and the star.

Using your freehand selection tool, point to point, draw a selection from the left hand side of the rectangle and the right hand of the star:-

Star Selection

Now with the Three Cuts Frame fill layer active,go to effects - photo effects, black and white film ad use the following settings:-

Black and white

Selections none.

Change the blend mode of the tube layer within the star to Screen.

Now copy and paste your tube again, and position to the right of the frame. Duplicate and place one of the layers under the frame. Click in the frame, expand selection by 3, invert selection and hit delete to get rid of the excess tube on the bottom layer. Drop shadow this tube layer.

Now , on the top tube layer, erase the part of the tube that overhangs the frame at the bottom.

Make your background layer active. Add a new raster layer and flood fill with a colour or gradient of choice. Apply your mask to this layer.

Now add your text, artist copyright, license number where necessary and taggers mark if used.

If you are going to make an avatar to match, Shift + D to make a duplicate of your layered image, minimise the duplicate for a moment.

On the original, save in your preferred format.

Now open the duplicate image. X out the mask layer, main tube layers, name and copyright etc. Preset shape , rectangle, line width and colour as before , draw a rectangle from the left of your original rectangle to just right of the right hand side of the star:-

Small rectangle

Change the line style to diamond and repeat rectangle as you did in the tag. Apply the origami filter as before. Drop shadow this frame, and x out the original rectangle.

With your magic wand. click inside the new frame, expand by 3, invert selection then on the frame fill layer hit delete to get rid of the excess.

Resize your avatar so that the largest side is 150 pixels. Sharpen.
