Optimization Settings for Animation Shop

This tutorial aims to show you how to set your Optimization Settings in Animation Shop. The settings applied here will work in about 90% of your tags, but might need adjusting occasionally depending on your tube etc. Once you have them set, they should remain constant, but as with all computer programs, you might need to reset them once in a while.

When you have finished your Animation and are ready to save it, Click on File at top left hand side of screen.

Locate File

Look down the drop down and locate your Optimization Wizard, ( note it will only be visible if you have an image open within Animation Shop:-

File

Click on the Optimization Wizard and follow through all the boxes with the settings shown here. The first box you see is this:-

Box 1

Make sure the Animated Gif File, and replace the current version with the optimized version boxes are ticked then press next.

Box 2

Make certain that the slide bar is pushed right to the top and then press customize:-

Box 3

Set the boxes exactly as in the above shot, 255 Colours, Optimized Median Cut and Error Diffusion. Click on the Optimizations tab at the top of the box.

Box 4

Match the settings above and then click OK. If your image has transparent areas within it, you will go back to the second box, where you need to then click on Partial Transparency at the top.

Box 5

Set the two settings as above and then click on OK. The blend colour box is one that often seems to reset, so make sure this is correct each time. If there are no transparent area in your animation, this Partial Transparency Tab will not be shown.

You will now be taken back to this box:-

Box 2

Click on next and this box appears :-

Box 6

When the boxes have all turned blue as above, click next:-

Box 8

The Box that appears will give you a before and after comparison of your image. If you are happy with what you see, press next.

Box 8

You can now see how big your gif is. In the case above, it was very small at 52K. The box also shows you how much time is requited for the gif to animate at the various net speeds.

Click finish and then view your optimized frames. If you are not happy with them, go to Edit, Undo optimization and make some changes.

Once happy with your image go to File - Save As and save your image as a gif.

Make a note of the above settings, so that if you ever do change them, you can put them back after without problems.
