Animation 1 - Noise/Glitter

In this tutorial you will make a simple tag using a mask a template and a tube, then add some interest to it by using "Noise" to give it a glittery effect.

Adams Noise

Supplies needed:-

PSP - I am using PSPXI but this will work in most versions.

PSP Tube - The one I used is by Joel Adams,www.lilz.net, and is licensed through CILM . You may not use his images without the appropriate license. Licenses and tubes can be obtained at CILM .

Mask - Becky Mask -or mask of choice.

Font of choice. I used Fairy Scroll available Here.

My supplies Here - includes Becky Mask and Leaf Template which I made from a Dingbat Font.

Open your psp tubes and font and minimise until you need them. You are now ready to start making your tag. Remember to save your work often so that if your program or pc crashes you do not have to start from the beginning again. The tutorial appears to be quite long, but that is mainly because I have included a lot of screen shots to help you.

Open a new image 500 x 500 pixels, 72dpi resolution:-

New Image

Flood fill this layer with white and rename it background.

Now copy and paste your leaf template:-

paste template

, and then your tube on to the image. Resize your tube to suit, I resized mine by 80%:-

resize tube

Arrange them to your liking, rename the layers leaf and tube:-

Position Tube

Now pick two coordinating colours from your tube and set your materials palette with them. X- out your tube layer and make your leaf layer active. I chose greens from my fairy's clothes for mine Foreground #557123, Background #9ED43E.

X out the tube layer for now and make sure your template layer is active. Locate your Magic Wand Tool, with the settings shown below:-

To ensure that the whole area will be covered when you flood fill, we are going to expand this selection slightly. Go to Selections, Modify, Expand:-

Expand your selection by 2:-

Now flood fill this selection with your darker colour. Select None.

Highlight your background layer to make it active and then add a new raster layer:-

Your new layer should be between the background and template layers. Flood fill this layer with a contrasting colour from your tube. I picked a pale blue #B1D4F5 .

Go to Layers , Load, Save Mask and find your Becky Mask 38 or mask of choice:-

You now have quite a pretty looking tag, but to make it more interesting we are going to add the noise to make it glitter.

Back to PSp. x out the copy leaf, and open the top leaf layer:-

Click into the second frame in Animation Shop and Paste After Current Frame again. You now have all three frames in Animation Shop.

In Paint Shop, save your image as a PSP Image so that if you want to make it with another name you can do so.

OK, we just have a few more things to do to finish off our Animation.

Click on view on the Animation Shop tool bar:-

Animation Shop Tool Bar

play animation

An animated version of your tag will play on the screen. Now we might need to slow down the animation slightly. Close the PLay Screen, and then click into the first frame of your animation and press CTRL + A. This will select every frame of your image. Now right click into the first frame and go to Frame Properties:-

frame properties

The smaller the number shown in this setting, the faster the animation. The default setting is 10, which is quite fast. In my tag I changed the setting to 15:-

View your animation again, and if your are happy with the speed. go to File. Optimization Wizard:-

Hopefully you will have set your Optimization Settings to those in the tutorial Here, otherwise do so now. If you have already done these , just press next on each of the screens that come up.

Now you can save your tag:-

save as

Make sure you save the image as a gif.

Well done, you have your first animated tag.
